Punarudhdharana, Ashtabandhana, Swarna-Rajatabanndhana Mahakumbhabishekam 27.06.2001Uttara Swami Malai, popularly known as Malai Mandir, comprises the temples of Śrī Swaminatha Swami, Śrī karpaga Vinayakar, Śrī Sundareswarar and Devi Meenakshi, situated atop and at the foot of a small hillock overlooking Ramakrishnapuram and Vasant Nagar in South West Delhi. The architecture of the temples reflects the glory and grandeur of South Indian temple architecture at its best. The Mahakumbhabhidhekam of the main Śrī Swaminatha Swami Temple was performed on 7th June 1973; the temples of Śrī Karpaga Vinayakar, Śrī Sundareswarar and Devi Meenakshi were consecrated after Maha Kumbhabhishekam on 13th June 1990. The Punarudhana Kumbhabhishekam of Śrī Swaminatha Swami Temple was performed on the same day. The agama shastras ordain performance of a punarudhdharana kumbhabhishekam of every temple at least once in twelve years. Kumbhabhishekam, which is the 'ceremony of ceremonies', means bathing with pots of sanctified water to bring forth the divine presence in the sculpted images. the jeernodharana kumbhabhishekam follows complete renovation of all temple structures, repainting of the vimanams and a host of related works. The ceremony spread over four days includes japas, chants of the Vedas, sanctifying kalasas (post of water), homas and yagnas. The finale is the pouring of sanctified water from the kalasas (pots) over the stupis on the top of the central vimanam over the sanctorum, the gopurams and the main and other deities by sivacharyas. With the blessings of Their Holinesses Jagatguru Śrī Jayendra Saraswati Sankaracharya Swamiji and Jagatguru Śrī Vijayendra Saraswati Sankaracharya Swamiji of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, it is proposed to perform the punaruddharana astabandhana swarna-rajata bandhana mahakumbhabhishekam of the temples in Uttara Swamimalai on Wednesday, the 27th June 2001 between 6 am and 7 am in the immediate and distinguished presence of the Swamijis. The expenditure on mahakumbhabhishekam including punaruddharana astabandhana swarna-rajata bandhana and the associated rituals and festivities is estimated to be about 50 lakhs. The Śrī Swaminatha Swami Seva Samaj appeals to all its devotees and well-wishers to contribute generously in cash and kind to meet the expenditure of the mahakumbhabhishekam, participate in all the events and receive the blessings of Śrī Swaminatha Swami, Śrī Vinayakar, Śrī Sundareswarar and Devi Meenakshi and other upadevatas.
